Facilities

Our 480-square-metre workshop houses separate zones for dimensioning, joinery assembly, veneer pressing, spray finishing, and hardware fitting. Climate control maintains stable humidity levels year-round, preventing timber movement during construction.

A dedicated machine shop with table saw, planer-thicknesser, spindle moulder, and CNC router handles dimensioning and profiling, while hand work remains at the heart of every commission.

Hand Tools and Tradition

Each bench joiner maintains a personal toolkit of hand planes, chisels, and marking gauges passed down or acquired over decades of practice. Dovetails are cut by hand on premium drawer boxes; machine-cut joints are reserved for structural carcass work where consistency matters.

This blend of hand and machine work defines our output: the efficiency of modern production with the refinement that only skilled hand finishing achieves.

Quality Control

Every component is checked against its drawing before assembly. Squareness, dimension accuracy, and surface quality are verified at each stage. Assembled pieces undergo function testing — drawers run, doors close, adjustable shelves locate — before leaving the workshop.

A final inspection by the workshop foreman accompanies each item to site, ensuring nothing leaves our premises below standard.

Visiting the Workshop

We welcome clients to visit during production. Seeing your kitchen carcasses assembled on the bench or your wardrobe doors being spray-finished provides reassurance and deepens appreciation for the craft involved.

Workshop visits are by appointment only, Tuesday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:00. Safety equipment is provided for all visitors entering the production area.

Apprenticeship Programme

Promaconte trains one apprentice joiner at a time through a structured four-year programme covering hand skills, machine operation, drawing interpretation, and site installation. Several current team members began as apprentices in our workshop.

By investing in the next generation, we ensure traditional joinery skills survive and evolve rather than disappearing as experienced craftsmen retire.
